Cooling System Pinpoint Test 3: Engine Does Not Reach Normal Operating Temperature

COOLING SYSTEM PINPOINT TEST 3: ENGINE DOES NOT REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE

PINPOINT TEST 3 ENGINE DOES NOT REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE
  • Start the engine and allow the engine to idle for ten minutes.
  • Key OFF.
  • Feel the inlet and heater hoses and the underside of the upper radiator hose.
  • Are the upper radiator hose and the heater hoses cold? 
Yes Replace the thermostat. See THERMOSTAT REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 2.3L for 2.3L engine. See THERMOSTAT REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L for 3.0L engine. See THERMOSTAT REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L for 4.0L engine. Test the system for normal operation.
