SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM NOT RELEASE/LOCK CORRECTLY PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

1 THE SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM DOES NOT RELEASE/LOCK CORRECTLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SWITCH
  • Press the brake pedal.
  • Do the stop lamps illuminate with the brake pedal pressed?
Yes Go to next step.
No See PINPOINT TEST 1: THE STOPLAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE .
2 CHECK THE IGNITION CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE.
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the Smart Junction Box (SJB) J-2280e.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage between J-2280e pin 29 (B/P) and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to next step.
No VERIFY the SJB fuse 4 (10A) is OK. If OK, See PINPOINT TEST 1: THE IGNITION SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE .
3 CHECK THE BRAKE APPLIED CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the SJB J-2280c.
  • Press and hold the brake pedal.
  • Measure the voltage between the SJB J-2280c pin 17 (LG/R) and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK THE SJB GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the Smart Junction Box J-2280c.
  • Measure the resistance between the J-2280c pin 30 (B) and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK THE SHIFT INTERLOCK CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND.
  • Disconnect the SJB J-2280a.
  • Disconnect the Floor Shifter C0518-01.
  • Measure the resistance between the SJB pin 9 (R) and the Floor Shifter C0518-01 pin 3 (R); and between the SJB pin 9 (R) and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and the floor shifter, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB and ground?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK THE FLOOR SHIFTER GROUND CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
  • Measure the resistance between the Floor Shifter C0518-01 pin 1 (B) and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new floor shifter. TEST the system for normal operation.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
