Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure

U3000-1C: (VCM) TROUBLESHOOTING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step Inspection Results Action
1 PURPOSE: INSPECT VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE (VCM) AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR MALFUNCTION 
  • Switch the ignition off/main power OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off)/(READY off).
  • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM) and body control module (BCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is a DTC related to an internal malfunction displayed?
Yes Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

(See DTC TABLE [BCM] .)
No Go to the next step.
2 PURPOSE: VERIFY REPEATABILITY 
  • Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on)/main power ON (READY off or on).
  • Because a CAN communication is in sleep mode, perform the following operation.
    • Switch the ignition off/main power OFF.
    • Remove all of the remote transmitters from the vehicle, lock all doors, and then wait for 10 min.
  • Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on)/main power ON (READY off or on).
  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

    (See CLEARING DTC .)

  • Switch the ignition off/main power OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off or on)/(READY off or on) and wait for 30 s or more.
  • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Perform the repair completion verification 2.
3 PURPOSE: INSPECT VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE (VCM) POWER SUPPLY FOR MALFUNCTION 
  • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Are any of the following DTCs displayed?
    • U3003-16:
    • U3003-17:
Yes Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

(See U3003-17: [VCM] .)
No Go to the next step.
4 PURPOSE: DETERMINE MALFUNCTIONING LOCATION 
  • Measure the voltage at the following terminals (part side).
    • Body control module (BCM) terminal 3A
    • Body control module (BCM) terminal 4X
  • Is the voltage normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.

If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
5 PURPOSE: INSPECT WIRING HARNESS (INCLUDING CONNECTOR/TERMINAL) BETWEEN REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (LH) AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
6 PURPOSE: INSPECT WIRING HARNESS (INCLUDING CONNECTOR/TERMINAL) BETWEEN REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (RH) AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
7 PURPOSE: INSPECT WIRING HARNESS (INCLUDING CONNECTOR/TERMINAL) BETWEEN FORWARD SENSING CAMERA (FSC) AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Mazda3 or CX-30
Go to the next step.
CX-50
Go to step 9.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
8 PURPOSE: INSPECT WIRING HARNESS (INCLUDING CONNECTOR/TERMINAL) BETWEEN DRIVER MONITORING CAMERA UNIT AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
9 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (LH) 
  • Connect the following connectors.
    • Body control module (BCM)
    • Rear side radar sensor (LH)
  • Disconnect the following connectors.
    • Rear side radar sensor (RH)
    • Forward sensing camera (FSC)
    • Driver monitoring camera unit (Mazda3 or CX-30)
  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

    (See CLEARING DTC .)

  • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes Malfunction cause may be due to rear side radar sensor (LH).
Go to the next step.
No Go to the next step.
10 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR (RH) 
  • Connect the following connectors.
    • Body control module (BCM)
    • Rear side radar sensor (RH)
  • Disconnect the following connectors.
    • Rear side radar sensor (LH)
    • Forward sensing camera (FSC)
    • Driver monitoring camera unit

      (Mazda3 or CX-30)

  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

    (See CLEARING DTC .)

  • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes Malfunction cause may be due to rear side radar sensor (RH).
Go to the next step.
No Go to the next step.
11 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS FORWARD SENSING CAMERA (FSC) 
  • Connect the following connectors.
    • Body control module (BCM)
    • Forward sensing camera (FSC)
  • Disconnect the following connectors.
    • Rear side radar sensor (LH)
    • Rear side radar sensor (RH)
    • Driver monitoring camera unit

      (Mazda3 or CX-30)

  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

    (See CLEARING DTC .)

  • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes Malfunction cause may be due to forward sensing camera (FSC).
Go to the next step.
No Mazda3 or CX-30
Go to the next step.
CX-50
Go to step 13.
12 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS DRIVER MONITORING CAMERA UNIT 
  • Connect the following connectors.
    • Body control module (BCM)
    • Driver monitoring camera unit

      (Mazda3 or CX-30)

  • Disconnect the following connectors.
    • Rear side radar sensor (LH)
    • Rear side radar sensor (RH)
    • Forward sensing camera (FSC)
  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

    (See CLEARING DTC .)

  • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes Malfunction cause may be due to driver monitoring camera unit.
Go to the next step.
No Go to the next step.
13 PURPOSE: IDENTIFY MALFUNCTIONING MODULE 
  • Verify the number of times DTC U3000-1C: is displayed in Steps 9 to 12.
  • Is DTC U3000-1C: displayed in all steps from Steps 9 to 12?
Yes Perform the repair completion verification 1.
No Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.

If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
  • If the malfunction recurs, replace the module connected the connector when the DTC is displayed, and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in service information.)

(Refer to FORWARD SENSING CAMERA (FSC) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in service information.) (Refer to DRIVER MONITORING CAMERA UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in service information.)
Repair completion verification 1 PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED 
  • Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory.

    (See CLEARING DTC .)

  • Perform the DTC inspection for the vehicle control module (VCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.

If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
No Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED 
  • Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No DTC troubleshooting completed.
