MODIFICATION NOTES

3.9.03 Check ring gear, newly recorded Stage 7  
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install     
DANGER Risk of death  cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by explosive gas.
Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries
No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Disconnect ground cable from battery IMPORTANT Insulate ground line as a protection against unintentional contact of dismounted ground line with ground point of battery.

3 Dismount electrical lines (1, 2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut of terminal 30 connection *BA15.30-P-1001-01A 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut of connection circuit 50 *BA15.30-P-1002-01A 
4.1 Dismount right engine mount from engine support IMPORTANT Unscrew bolt at engine mount, lightly raise engine and place engine mount to the side.

5 Unscrew bolts (3) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.30-P-1003-01A 
6 Take out starter (M1) to the side    
7.1 Check ring gear at flywheel for wear and damage When replacing the starter on vehicles fitted with manual transmission
IMPORTANT Rotate engine at the crankshaft in direction of rotation.
 
7.2 Check ring gear on the drive plate for wear and damage When replacing the starter on vehicles fitted with automatic transmission
IMPORTANT Rotate engine at the crankshaft in direction of rotation.
 
8 Install in the reverse order    
9 Perform function check    
10 Render electrical system operational See ↓

11 Read diagnostic trouble code memory and erase IMPORTANT When the work is complete stored faults must be worked on in the diagnostic trouble code memories and erased. ↓  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, read out fault memory AD00.00-P-2000-04A
