The corresponding input of the extended activity module (EAM, N10/1)  is connected directly to ground by the left front heated seat switch (S51/1)  or the right front heated seat switch (S51/2)  when the switch is set to heating stage I. The extended activity module (EAM, N10/1)  recognizes "heating stage I actuated".

When the switch is set to heating stage II ground is connected to the corresponding input by the left front heated seat switch (S51/1)  or the right front heated seat switch (S51/2)  via a resistor  integrated into the switch. The voltage then present on the resistor is recognized as "Heating stage II actuated" by the extended activity module (EAM, N10/1)  (voltage coding).
