Check & Adjustment

  1. Observe general information on chassis alignment. See PREPARATION FOR CHASSIS ALIGNMENT  .
  2. NOTE: Vehicle manufacturer does not provide information about centering steering wheel on steering shaft during this procedure.
  3. Check center position of steering gear and steering wheel. The steering gear is in the center position when the marking on the steering shaft matches the marking on the steering gear housing (arrow). See Fig 1 .
  4. NOTE: To keep from damaging soft steering wheel, place protective pads between steering wheel and holding device (055). See Fig 3 .
  5. Swing sun visor to the side if necessary, fix the steering wheel in the center position and install the holding device (055). See Fig 2 . Also, see Figure under SPECIAL TOOLS.
  6. Loosen lock nut (6) at drag link (3) and twist the tie rod (10). See Fig 1 .
  7. Loosen bolts on clamps (4) at tie rod (5).
  8. Press drag link (3) off pitman arm.
  9. Adjust toe-in, adjust by turning adjustment nut on tie rod (5) and turning drag link end on drag link (3). Make adjustments to toe angle if necessary. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS  .
  10. After adjustment, attach drag link (3) to pitman arm.
  11. Tighten bolts on clamps (4) at tie rod (5). See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  12. Tighten lock nut (6) at drag link (3). See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  13. Recheck all alignment specifications, See PERFORMING CHASSIS ALIGNMENT CHECK  .
