Location 

The frontal acceleration sensors are located to the left and right on the front module.

Task 

The frontal acceleration sensors determine the acceleration value of the vehicle front for the left and right side of the vehicle. The supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10) uses these values to decide, whether to trigger the emergency tensioning retractor or airbag units.

IMPORTANT The frontal acceleration sensors carry out a self-test. If the self-test fails 4 times, a defect is signaled for the corresponding frontal acceleration sensor. Upon request of the supplemental restraint system control unit, the measuring range and the sensitivity of the frontal acceleration sensors are transmitted, and it is checked whether they match the programmed equipment.

The production data can be output via STAR DIAGNOSIS.
