Detection of the camshaft position takes place for the right and left cylinder bank by one Hall sensor per camshaft which recognizes the position of the segment on the respective camshaft.

A signal is generated for revolution of a camshaft. For ME 2.7.1 the signals from the right and left camshaft are offset by a 420° crank angle.

The signal from the camshaft Hall sensor is approx. 12 V ("high").

If the segment on the camshaft is positioned opposite the Hall sensor, the signal jumps to 0 V ("low").

The "0 V signal" from the camshaft Hall sensor of the right bank of cylinders is used for detecting ignition TDC of cylinder 1. The second "0 V signal" from the camshaft Hall sensor of the left bank of cylinders (for ME 2.7.1) is used for detecting ignition TDC of cylinder 7.
