REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

Insulate ground line of battery.
Unwanted contact of the disconnected ground line with the ground point of the battery can occur otherwise.

3.1 Remove catalytic converter diesel particulate filter unit Vehicles with catalytic converter diesel particulate filter unit

4 Remove screws/bolts (8) MODEL 166 with ENGINE 651  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, shield to exhaust manifold *BA14.10-P-1002-01P 
5 Remove heat shield (7) from turbocharger (9) MODEL 166 with ENGINE 651  
6 Remove screw/bolts (2, 3), unfasten shield (1) on retaining clamp and take off TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, heat shield to engine support *BA22.10-P-1003-02A 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Shield to starter *BA15.30-P-1004-01P 
7 Detach contact protection, unscrew nut (5) and remove electrical line for circuit 30 from starter (M1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, connection for circuit 30 *BA15.30-P-1002-01P 
8 Unscrew nut (4) and remove electrical line for circuit 50 from starter (M1) INSTALLATION NOTES
The circuit 50 electrical line (arrow, picture a) in Fig 3 must not be routed to the front on starter. The circuit 50 electrical line (arrow, picture b) must be laid between the starter and the crankcase. The connector for the circuit 50 electrical line on starter must point in the direction of the crankcase.
The circuit 50 electrical line (picture a) will chafe on the heat shield (1) otherwise.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, connection for circuit 50 *BA15.30-P-1003-01P 
9 Remove rear support brace for turbocharger IMPORTANT Only for sequential turbo-charging.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear/center turbocharger bracket to cylinder crankcase *BA09.40-P-1003-01P 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear/center turbocharger bracket to turbocharger *BA09.40-P-1002-01P 
10 Remove screw/bolts (6) IMPORTANT When loosening upper bolt (6) a suitable extension should be led at and past the rear engine mount over the transmission to the upper bolt (6) in order to ease removal.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, starter to major assembly carrier/cylinder crankcase *BA15.30-P-1001-01P 
11 Remove starter (M1) from below    
INSPECT Check     
12 Check pinion on the starter (M1) for damage and wear When reusing the starter (M1)
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace starter (M1) in case of damage or wear.
 
13 Check flywheel ring gear on flywheel/drive plate for wear and damage When replacing the starter (M1)

IMPORTANT Replace flywheel/clutch plate in case of damage or wear.  
14 Install in the reverse order
