	Remove/install
	Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.	Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.	AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
	Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts		AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1	Detach ground line from battery		AR54.10-P-0003GZ
	Notes on battery		AH54.10-P-0001-01A
2	Remove bottom engine compartment paneling		AR61.30-P-1001GQ
3	Remove engine with front axle carrier	ENGINE 157, 278 in MODEL 166	AR01.10-P-2500MLJ
4	Remove engine mount heat shield
5	Remove screw/bolts on heat shield over starter (M1)	Loosen heat shield and leave in vehicle.
6	Detach transmission oil line holder on oil pan
7	Remove bolts (5) of starter (M1)	Bolt, starter to crankcase	*BA15.30-P-1003-01J
8	Remove starter (M1) from below	When pulling out the starter (M1) do not kink or pull any electrical line. Electrical malfunctions can occur otherwise. Electrical line for circuit 50 (4) and electrical line for circuit 30 remain on the starter (M1).
9	Disconnect electrical line of circuit 50 (4) at starter (M1)	Nut, connection for terminal designation 50	*BA15.30-P-1002-01J
10	Detach protection against accidental contact (3) and detach electrical line circuit 30 at starter (M1)	Nut, connection for terminal designation 30	*BA15.30-P-1001-01J
	Check
11	Check ring gear at the drive plate for wear and damage	Socket wrench bit When replacing the starter (M1) ↓ Rotate engine at center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation.	Figure
12	Install in the reverse order
