Reset Trip Computer After Software Update of ECU

As of MY2011, trip data is no longer calculated in the instrument cluster. It is calculated in the engine control unit (ECU).

Therefore, any ECU software updates to any variant of gasoline or diesel passenger vehicle must include synchronization with the instrument cluster. If this is not done, the instrument cluster will show bars only and customer complaints will ensue.

After any ECU software updates, the trip computer must be reset (see menu items "After start" and "After reset") using the steering wheel buttons. This is necessary to ensure that travel data sent by the instrument cluster is synchronized with the ECU, and to ensure that consumption data (mpg) is correct.
