Glow Plug Signal

  1. Place transmission in Neutral. If coolant temperature is above 86°F (30°C), jump connections at coolant switch. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position.
  2. Using voltmeter, check voltage at each glow plug lead. There must be a minimum of 11 volts at each lead for 6 seconds. After 6 seconds, voltage should drop to 4.2-5.3 volts.
  3. If any glow plugs do not have a voltage signal, replace glow plug harness and repeat test. If there is no voltage, go to ENGINE-TO-GLOW PLUG HARNESS directly below. If voltage is okay for 6 seconds, but drops to zero volts, go to NO. 2 GLOW PLUG RELAY SIGNAL below. If voltage is okay, go to GLOW PLUGS & HARNESS below.
