Drive Cycle Mode 1

  1. 1)  Ensure no vacuum leaks exist. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn off all accessories. Ensure idle speed and ignition timing are within specification.
  2. 2)  Turn ignition off. Set parking brake and block drive wheels. With transmission in Neutral or Park, start engine.
  3. 3)  Increase engine speed to 1700-2300 RPM and hold steady for at least 15 seconds. Bring engine speed back to idle and let idle for approximately 30 seconds before turning of ignition. Increase engine speed again to 3700-4300 RPM and hold steady for at least 15 seconds.
  4. 4)  Bring engine speed back to idle and let idle for approximately 30 seconds before turning of ignition. Turn ignition off. This is the end of Mode 1.
  5. 5)  To verify drive cycle Mode 1 was successful, connect NGS scan tool and select PID/DATA MONITOR. MODE 1 PID should indicate ACTIVE. If drive cycle Mode 1 procedure was carefully followed but not successfully completed, go to CIRCUIT TEST QC to diagnose cause of Mode 1 failure.
