Drive Cycle Mode 3

  1. 1)  Ensure Mode 1 has been successfully completed. Turn ignition off. Connect NGS scan tool to OBD-II DLC. Enter PID/DATA MONITOR menu selection. Access VSS PID.
  2. 2)  Ensure all accessories are off. Start engine and start to time Drive Cycle Mode 3. Drive vehicle at any legal speed for 5 minutes, no special pattern is necessary. See Fig 1.
  3. 3)  After the first 5 minutes, drive vehicle between 16-35 MPH (26-56 KM/H), do not exceed 1/4 (25%) throttle as indicated by NGS scan tool. Maintain this speed until 18 minutes has elapsed from start of Mode 3.
    NOTE: If the minimum speed 16 MPH (26 KM/H) cannot be maintained the monitoring will temporarily stop and resume when speed have increased to the desired range 16-35 MPH (26-56 KM/H).
  4. 4)  After 18 minute mark, drive with steady throttle at 22-29 MPH (35-46 KM/H) for at least 20 seconds then return to idle. At this point NGS scan tool should indicate O2 monitor and catalyst monitoring to be complete. See ON-BOARD SYSTEM READINESS (OSR) TEST MODE  under ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FEATURES. Turn ignition off and disconnect test equipment.
