Test B: Set Speed Fluctuates
- Observe speedometer while test driving vehicle at a constant speed of 40-55 MPH. If speedometer does not display a constant speed, repair speedometer as necessary. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. If speedometer displays a constant speed, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect speed control actuator connector C127. Disconnect inlet port vacuum line from speed control vacuum canister (located underneath vacuum canister). Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between positive battery terminal and terminal No. 2 (component side) at speed control actuator. Attach ground to speed control actuator connector terminals No. 1, 3, and 4 (component side). If speed control actuator pulls speed control actuator cable inward, go to next step. If speed control actuator does not pull speed control actuator cable inward, replace speed control actuator. Retest system operation.
- Leaving all other jumper wires connected, remove jumper wire from terminal No. 3 at speed control actuator. If speed control actuator remains pulled in, go to next step. If speed control actuator does not remain pulled in, replace speed control actuator. Retest system operation.
- Leaving all other jumper wires connected, remove jumper wire from terminal No. 2 at speed control actuator and positive battery terminal. If speed control actuator releases immediately, replace speed control actuator module. If speed control actuator does not release immediately, replace speed control actuator. Retest system operation.
