Transaxle Fluid Cooler Flow Test

NOTE: Transaxle linkage/cable adjustment, fluid level and line pressure must be within specification before carrying out this test.
  1. Remove dipstick from fluid filler tube. Place transaxle fluid funnel into filler tube. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove cooler return line from fitting on transaxle case. Connect one end of a hose to cooler return line and route other end of hose to a point where it can be inserted into funnel. Remove safety stands, and slowly lower vehicle. Insert end of hose into funnel.
  3. Start engine and run at idle with transaxle in Neutral position. Ensure fluid flows from hose in a steady stream, at about 1.0 qt. (.9L) in 30 seconds.
  4. If an adequate flow is observed, test is complete. If flow is not adequate, stop engine. Disconnect hose from cooler return line and connect it to cooler supply line on transaxle case. Reconnect cooler return line.
  5. Repeat steps  3 and  4 until adequate flow is shown. If flow is now 1.0 qt. (.9L) in 30 seconds, backflush oil cooler. See OIL COOLER FLUSHING  under ON-VEHICLE SERVICE. If flow is still not about 1.0 qt. (.9L) in 30 seconds, repair oil pump and/or torque converter.
