Output Shaft Bearing Preload Adjustment
- Install output shaft bearing retainer with NEW sealing rings into transaxle case. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
. Install output shaft hub thrust washer. Install output shaft into transaxle case.
- Place equal height gauge blocks on either side of side cover. Place straightedge across gauge blocks. Measure distance from straightedge to thrust washer mating surface. See Fig 1
. Subtract measured distance from thickness of gauge block and straightedge. This is dimension "A".
- Place equal height gauge blocks on either side of transaxle case. Place straightedge across gauge blocks. Measure distance from straightedge to output shaft bearing outer race selective shim mating surface. See Fig 2
. Subtract measured distance from thickness of gauge block and straightedge. This is dimension "B".
- To determine thrust washer (dimension "T") thickness, use equation "A" - "B" = "T"
. See Fig 3
. Select proper thickness adjusting shim so that output shaft end play is 0-.006" (0-.15 mm).
- Output shaft bearing shims range in thickness from .031" (.80 mm) to .047" (1.20 mm), in .0016 (.040 mm) increments. Install selected shim. Apply appropriate sealant to side cover and install. Tighten bolts in crisscross pattern to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
