Oil Pressure Test
WARNING:
Be careful not to burn yourself, as the engine and oil may be hot.
- Check the oil level.
- Remove the oil pressure sensor.
- Install an Engine Oil Pressure Gauge.
- Start the engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature.
- Check the oil pressure with the engine running under no load. The approximate discharge pressure should be more than 59 kPa (9 psi) at idle, and 412-451 kPa (60-65 psi) at 3200 RPM.
- Install the oil pressure sensor with sealant.
NOTE:
The oil pressure check should be done in the NEUTRAL (N) gear position.
- Disconnect and remove the oil pressure sensor (9278) from the engine.
- Connect the Engine Oil Pressure Gauge to the oil pressure sender oil galley port.
- Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.
- Run the engine at the specified RPM and record the gauge reading.
- The oil pressure should be within specifications; refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
- If the pressure is not within specification, check the following possible sources:
- insufficient oil
- oil leakage
- worn or damaged oil pump
- oil pump screen cover and tube (6622)
- excessive main bearing clearance
- excessive connecting rod bearing clearance
