Accumulating PCM Data
PCM data can be accumulated in a number of ways. Gather as much data as possible when fault is occurring to prevent misdiagnosis. Data should be accumulated during different operating conditions, and based on customer description of intermittent fault. Compare actual PID values to the typical PID values in PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE TABLES to determine which input or output is not within specification. See VILLAGER 3.3L A/T (4F20E) under PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE TABLES under PID DEFINITIONS & PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUES in PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS - TRUCKS article. This will require recording PID data in 4 conditions for comparison: KOEO, HOT IDLE, 30 MPH and 55 MPH. Acquisition of PCM PID data using a scan tool is one of the easiest ways to gather information. To select and view PIDs, see SELECTING & VIEWING PIDS .
