Power Steering Pump: Removal

NOTE: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may result.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Using a suitable suction device, siphon the power steering fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  3. Disconnect the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.
  4. Remove the pressure line bracket-to-valve cover stud nut and detach the bracket from the stud.
  5. Remove the 7 pin-type retainers and the RH splash shield.

  7. Using the special tool, remove the power steering pump belt from the power steering pump pulley and position it aside.
    • Install the special tool between the power steering pump belt and pulley and turn the crankshaft bolt clockwise.

  9. Release the clamp and disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir-to-pump supply hose from the power steering pump.
    • Detach the supply hose retainer from the power steering pressure line bracket.
  10. Disconnect the fuel efficient power steering (FEPS) solenoid electrical connector.
  11. Remove the power steering pressure line bracket-to-engine bolt.
  12. Remove the 3 power steering pump bolts.
  13. Holding the power steering pump with a punch inserted into a mounting bolt cavity, disconnect the power steering pressure line fitting-to-power steering pump.
