Steering Column: Installation

CAUTION:
During installation, make sure universal joint is correctly seated. Clamping screw must rest in locking groove of steering column.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten steering column to dashboard bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If the same steering column is reinstalled in the vehicle, note position of universal joint in relation to steering column. Replace clamping screw (1). See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- After installation, carry out adjustment of steering angle sensor. See BMW Diagnosis Program. On vehicles with fully electric steering column, recode control unit (CIM) when replacing steering column. See Diagnosis Program. Check for ease of movement in overall adjustment range of steering column to adjoining components and wires.
- Turn steering wheel left and right to full lock. AIRBAG warning lamp must not light up.
