Power Steering Pump: Reassembly

  1. Lubricate NEW "O" rings and internal pump components with ATF Dexron II fluid before reassembly. Install suction tube connector.
  2. Install "O" ring, pressure connector, "O" ring, flow control valve and spring in housing. Install shaft, bearing and oil seal in oil pump housing.
  3. Install snap ring and protector on shaft. Install key, pulley, lock washer and retaining nut on shaft. Install 4 "O" rings. Insert knock pins into housing.
  4. Position side plate. Insert vanes into rotor. Position cam ring over rotor assembly. Install rotor assembly into housing. Install pump cover and cover retaining bolts.


  1. Lubricate "O" rings and internal pump components with Dexron II ATF before reassembly. Install flow control valve spring and control valve in housing.
  2. Install and tighten pressure connector. Depress control valve to check for smooth operation. Apply grease to lip of oil seal. Install oil seal into housing.
  3. Install side plate with chamfered edge toward rotor, rotor with chamfered inner bore toward pump cover, and collar with chamfered edge toward rotor on pump shaft. Tighten pulley nut temporarily.
  4. Hold snap ring on shaft with snap ring pliers. Install "O" ring and side plate spring into housing. Install vanes with rounded edges outward onto rotor.
  5. Insert shaft assembly with vanes into housing. Do not damage pump shaft seal lip. Install cam ring with chamfered edge toward side plate. Install and tighten suction connector.
