Clutch Assembly: Inspection
- Check for excessive wear, warpage or damage of clutch disc. Measure rivet depth on clutch disc. See Figure . Replace disc if rivet depth is not within specifications given.
- Inspect diaphragm spring of clutch cover for excessive wear of fingers and looseness of strap rivets. Check pressure plate for scoring or warpage. Using dial indicator, ensure that flywheel runout does not exceed specification given. Inspect flywheel for cracks, scoring or discoloration. Resurface or replace flywheel if necessary.
- Check release bearing for rough rotation and/or excessive noise. Check diaphragm spring contact portions for abnormal wear. Inspect bearing and fulcrum contact points of release lever for abnormal wear. Check clutch cable (if equipped) for free movement and replace if necessary.
- Check for excessive wear, warpage or damage to clutch disc. Measure rivet depth on clutch disc. See Figure . Replace disc if rivet depth is not within specifications given. Inspect diaphragm springs on clutch cover for excessive wear of fingers or looseness of strap rivets.
- Check pressure plate on clutch cover and flywheel for scoring, heat cracks, warpage or discoloration. Using a dial indicator, measure flywheel runout. Resurface or replace flywheel if runout is greater than .005" (.13 mm).
- Check release bearing for rough rotation and/or excessive noises. Replace if needed. Check diaphragm spring contact surface of clutch cover for abnormal wear. Inspect bearing and fulcrum contact points of release lever for abnormal wear. Replace if necessary.
