Basic Timing

Timing Adjustment:






NOTE: When adjusting timing, turn all lamps and accessories "OFF," place transmission in neutral, and ensure coolant temperature is at least 185° - 205°F (85° - 95°C). On vehicles with power steering, place wheels in straight forward position.

BASIC TIMING
8° ± 2° BTDC

1. Connect tachometer and timing light. Run engine at idle speed of 700 ± 100 rpm.
2. At high altitude (over 3900 ft / 1200 m), disconnect and plug white-stripe hose from distributor sub-vacuum chamber.
3. Loosen mount nut and turn distributor as shown to adjust timing.
4. After adjustment, tighten nut and recheck timing.
5. After replacing vacuum hose removed in step 2, check that timing advances to the actual timing.
