EGR System

  1. Check vacuum hose for routing and installation. Start engine when cold and run at 2500 RPM. If EGR valve operates, replace thermovalve.
  2. Warm engine to normal operating temperature 185-205°F (85-95°C). Ensure when engine is at 2500 RPM, EGR valve operates. If EGR valve does not operate, restrict exhaust flow at tailpipe to increase backpressure. If EGR fails to operate, replace EGR valve or VRV.
  3. Disconnect Green striped hose from thermovalve. Connect a vacuum pump to thermovalve. With engine warm, apply 10 in. Hg at thermovalve. If vacuum is not maintained and bleeds off, replace thermovalve.
  4. Disconnect vacuum hose at EGR. Connect a hand vacuum pump to EGR. Start engine and let idle. Apply 10 in. Hg. If idling speed becomes rough, then EGR valve is operating properly. If idling speed is unchanged, valve is not operating. Replace EGR valve.
