Disassembly (Precis)

  1. Remove steering column. See STEERING COLUMN  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove coupling bolt and remove intermediate shaft from steering column.
  2. If removing steering lock, cut a slot in retaining screws with hacksaw. Remove screws using screwdriver.
  3. Remove steering lock. Always use new screws and bracket when reassembling steering lock. If removing steering column bracket, cut a slot in retaining bolt with hacksaw. Remove bolts using screwdriver. Always use new bolts when installing bracket to steering column.
  4. If necessary, remove tilt steering lever and mounting bracket (if equipped). DO NOT disassemble steering column and shaft.
