ISSUE & TIP

When testing the 175 KM-77 automatic overdrive transmissions used in 1985-92 Mitsubishi products, be aware that the two pulse generators that are mounted on top of the transmission case may be incorrectly positioned. If the positions of the pulse generators are reversed, the transmission won't shift properly. A scanner won't reveal that anything is wrong, and a transmission overhaul won't help the situation.

Try swapping the positions of the pulse generators before you get buried in your diagnosis. Whoever worked on the vehicle before you may have already done the same, causing the problem.
