Self-Diagnostic System: Introduction
The first step in diagnosing any problem is verifying the customer's complaint with a test drive under the conditions the problem reportedly occurred. Before entering self-diagnostics, perform a careful and complete visual inspection. Most problems result from mechanical breakdowns (throttle linkage), poor electrical connections or damaged/misrouted vacuum hoses. To verify vacuum hose routing and connections, see appropriate VACUUM DIAGRAMS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
