EPS Control Unit Circuit Inspection

Control unit removal from mounting bracket may be necessary to perform pin voltage and continuity checks. Control unit harness connector remains connected while performing voltage checks. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .

Measure voltage by backprobing connector using DVOM. Connect positive lead to desired terminal and negative lead to control unit terminal No. 4. See EPS CONTROL UNIT PIN VOLTAGE & CONTINUITY SPECIFICATIONS table. Disconnect harness connector to perform continuity checks to vehicle ground. For EPS control unit terminal identification, see Figure .

2 Solenoid Valve (+) (3) 6 Volts Or Greater
3 Solenoid Valve (-) Continuity
4 Vehicle Ground Continuity
5 Power Supply (3) Battery Voltage
6 VSS (4) 0-4 Volts
7 Diagnostic Output (5)
(1) Throttle Position Sensor.
(2) Voltage changes as throttle is opened.
(3) Key on, engine off.
(4) Voltage will pulse as vehicle is moved.
(5) Needle pulses 0-5 volts.
