Automatic Transmission Using Scan Tool

  1. With ignition off, connect scan tool with ROM pack to 12-pin and 16-pin data link connectors, located under right side of driver's dash.
  2. Turn ignition on. Read and record all DTCs from module memory. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions for specific DTC retrieval procedure.
  3. After recording DTC(s), perform necessary testing. See the appropriate DIAGNOSIS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. After all DTCs have been retrieved and recorded, clear DTCs from ECU memory. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions for specific DTC clearing instructions.
  4. If DTCs cannot be cleared, module is currently detecting a malfunction. If DTCs can be cleared, problem is either intermittent or only appears while driving.
