Diagnostic Tests: Notes

CAUTION: Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position when performing resistance tests.
NOTE: Perform all resistance and voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedures.
NOTE: For wire color identification at PCM terminals, see PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS - 2.0L NON-TURBO article.

Using scan tool or MIL (CHECK ENGINE) light, display and record trouble codes. See ENTERING ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no codes are displayed, see TESTS W/O CODES - 2.0L NON-TURBO article.

Clear trouble codes. See CLEARING CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Road test vehicle (if necessary) and attempt to duplicate conditions that caused original complaint. Recheck for codes. If no codes are displayed, go to INTERMITTENT FAULTS  . If one or more codes are displayed, repair codes in order starting with lowest numbered code. Clear codes after each repair. Recheck for codes to confirm repair.

Tests are numbered using Multi-Use Tester II (MUT II) scan tool codes. To translate MUT II codes to generic scan tool codes or MIL codes, see TROUBLE CODES  .
