Door Ajar Test 1A - Identifying Door Ajar System Problem

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Stratus and 1995 Chrysler Cirrus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Body Control Module (BCM) monitors 4 door ajar switches. When switch is closed (door open), BCM will sound chime once and display DOOR message in odometer Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) display. If all doors are closed and properly aligned, go to next step. If door(s) are out of alignment, repair door alignment and ensure door(s) close(s) properly.
  2. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM, and then INPUTS/OUTPUTS and read left front door ajar and door ajar switch status. Open and close each door one at a time. If switch status toggles from OPEN to CLOSED as each door is opened, door ajar circuits are operational with no problems found. If switch status does not toggle from OPEN to CLOSED as each door is opened, go to next step.
  3. If door ajar switch status is CLOSED when door is closed, perform appropriate shorted circuit test. See DOOR AJAR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY table. If door ajar switch status is OPEN when door is open, perform appropriate open circuit test. See DOOR AJAR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY table.
NOTE: A shorted LF DOOR AJAR circuit will only affect left front door. One shorted passenger door ajar circuit will affect all passenger door circuits.
