Instrument Cluster Test 1A - Identifying Instrument Cluster Problems

NOTE: Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, select MIC CLUSTER. Turn key to UNLOCK position. If scan tool displays, NO RESPONSE or Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) display is blank or displays NO BUS, go to NO RESPONSE TEST 2A  . If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select MIC CLUSTER and then select READ DTCs. If scan tool displays RAM FAULT, replace Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC). If scan tool displays AIR BAG WARNING LAMP OPEN/SHORT see the AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. If scan tool display is other than described, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select MIC CLUSTER and read cluster type. If cluster type matches vehicle equipment (US or Metric), go to next step. If cluster type does not match vehicle, replace MIC.
  4. Identify problems(s) listed in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY table and perform indicated test(s).

Trip Reset Button (1) *
(1) Using scan tool, read status of trip reset button switch (open or closed), and depress trip reset button. If status of trip reset button does not change, replace Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC).
