Power Door Lock Test 8A - Identifying RKE Problems
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Stratus and 1995 Chrysler Cirrus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform POWER DOOR LOCK TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER INTRODUCTION. Perform TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector. Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Does Not Operate At All
- Ensure Body Control Module (BCM) is ACTIVE ON THE BUS. Go to SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A .
- Using scan tool, select READ DTCs and look for NO POWER TO MODULE trouble code. If NO POWER TO MODULE trouble code is present, go to NO RESPONSE TEST 1A .
- Check RKE transmitter battery voltage. If battery voltage is less than 3 volts, replace battery.
- Substitute a known good RKE transmitter from another JA Body vehicle. Using scan tool, select PROGRAM RKE and reprogram RKE transmitter according to scan tool instructions. If RKE system still does not operate, replace BCM.
NOTE:
If vehicle is equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), there will be a RKE antenna terminal at back of BCM. Antenna connector will have a single White wire terminal above instrument panel 10-pin connector.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Does Not Operate Properly (Must Be
Held Too Close To Vehicle)
Locate RKE antenna wire at back of BCM, above instrument panel 10-pin connector. See Figure in CHIME TEST 3A. Ensure antenna wire is properly connected to BCM. Check RKE transmitter battery voltage. If battery voltage is less than 3 volts, replace battery. If antenna is properly connected and RKE transmitter battery voltage is more than 3 volts, replace BCM. Perform TEST VER-1A .
