Test 15A - Ambient Temperature Reading

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), go to TEST 15B. If vehicle is not equipped with EVIC and temperature display is more than 130°F (54°C), go to TEST 15C . If vehicle is not equipped with EVIC and temperature display is less than -30°F (-34°C), go to TEST 15D . If vehicle is not equipped with EVIC and temperature display is between 130°F to -30°F (54°C to -34°C), go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector, located behind right front bumper fascia. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, read outside temperature sensor voltage. If voltage is less than 4 volts, replace compass/temperature module. If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to next step.
  3. Connect jumper wire across both ambient temperature sensor connector terminals. If voltage is more than 0.5 volt, replace compass/temperature module. If voltage is less than 0.5 volt, replace ambient temperature sensor.
