DTC 96 - No CCD Messages From Transaxle Control Module (TCM)

NOTE: For terminal identification, see TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS section. For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L - NON-TURBO article.
  1. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communications with TCM. If scan tool communicates with TCM, check PCM connectors. If PCM connectors are okay, replace PCM. If scan tool does not communicate with TCM, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors and attempt to establish communications with TCM again. If scan tool communicates with TCM, check PCM connectors. If PCM connectors are okay, replace PCM. If scan tool does not communicate with TCM, go to next step. 3) Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 27 and between ground and DLC terminal No. 28. Voltage should be 1.5-3.5 volts. Go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check resistance between DLC terminals No. 27 and 28. Resistance should be 110-130 ohms. If voltage and resistance are as specified, go to next step. If voltage or resistance is not as specified, check TCM connector and wiring harness between PCM and TCM. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace TCM.
  4. Connect PCM connectors, disconnect TCM connector. Check resistance between DLC terminals No. 27 and 28. If resistance is 110-130 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, check PCM connectors. If connectors are okay, replace PCM.
  5. Check PCM and TCM connectors. If connectors are okay, clear DTCs. Road test vehicle to verify repairs. If DTC 96 resets, replace PCM. Clear DTCs. Road test vehicle to verify repairs. If DTC 96 resets, replace TCM.
