Test G-5: Windshield Washer Inoperative

  1. Check wiper operation. If wiper operates normally, go to next step. If wiper does not operate normally, diagnose wiper problem according to symptom. See SYMPTOM TEST INDEX  table.
  2. Check input signals from windshield washer switch. See INPUT SIGNAL CHECK FUNCTION  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If input signal test shows a fault, check windshield washer switch circuit. See TEST O-18: WINDSHIELD & REAR WIPER SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECKS  . If input signal test is okay, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect washer motor 2-pin connector. Fill washer tank with water. Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage to washer motor connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire) and ground washer motor connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). Washer motor should operate and squirt fluid. If problem exists, replace washer motor and retest washer operation. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Measure resistance between ground and washer motor connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair Black/Red wire between washer motor and front-ECU and retest washer operation. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, repair Black wire between washer motor and ground and retest washer operation.
