Activating/Deactivating Hazard Answerback Function Using RKE Transmitter In Addition To Scan Tool Or Jumper Wire

  1. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. If using jumper wire, go to next step. If using scan tool, connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of dash, next to center console. Go to step  3
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 1. See Fig 1 . Go to next step.
  3. Ensure driver's door is closed. Turn windshield washer switch on for at least 10 seconds, until Electronic Time Alarm Control System (ETACS) ECU sounds tone once indicating ETACS-ECU has entered customize mode.
  4. To activate or deactivate hazard answerback function customization feature when doors are unlocked, go to next step. To activate or deactivate hazard answerback function customization feature when doors are locked, push LOCK button on RKE transmitter 2 times within 2 seconds. ETACS-ECU will sound indicating that it is ready to be switched. Push LOCK button on RKE transmitter again to activate or deactivate hazard answerback function. If ETACS-ECU sounds once when LOCK button is pushed, hazard answerback function is enabled. If ETACS-ECU sounds 2 times when LOCK button is pushed, hazard answerback function is disabled.
  5. To activate or deactivate hazard answerback function customization feature when doors are unlocked, push UNLOCK button on RKE transmitter 2 times within 2 seconds. ETACS-ECU will sound indicating that it is ready to be switched. Push UNLOCK button on RKE transmitter again to activate or deactivate hazard answerback function. If ETACS-ECU sounds once when UNLOCK button is pushed, hazard answerback function is enabled. If ETACS-ECU sounds 2 times when UNLOCK button is pushed, hazard answerback function is disabled.
  6. To exit hazard answerback function customization feature, disconnect scan tool and jumper wire. Turn ignition switch to position other than LOCK or open driver's door. If system remains inactive for at least 3 minutes after ETACS-ECU has entered customize mode, hazard answerback function customization feature will cancel automatically.
