Idle Speed & Ignition Timing: Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, 2002 Mitsubishi Montero, 2002 Mitsubishi Mirage, 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, and 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Ignition timing and idle speed are controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Idle speed has been adjusted with the fixed Speed Adjusting Screw (SAS) by the manufacturer. SAS should not need readjusting unless it has been tampered with. For adjustment procedure, see BASIC IDLE SPEED and FIXED SPEED ADJUSTING SCREW (SAS) under IDLE SPEED & MIXTURE in ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article.
