Ground Circuits

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, 2002 Mitsubishi Montero, 2002 Mitsubishi Mirage, 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, and 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Backprobe and check for continuity between chassis ground and ECM/PCM ground terminal(s). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit between ECM/PCM connector and chassis ground. Ensure suspect ground connection is clean and tight.
  2. Backprobe and measure voltage between chassis ground and ECM/PCM ground terminal(s). With engine operating at normal operating temperature, voltage should be less than one volt. If voltage is more than one volt, check for open, corrosion or loose connection in ground circuit.
