Provisional DTC

Provisional DTCs are set only during a single drive cycle. ECM (M/T) or PCM (A/T) will detect some malfunctions and set DTCs in memory but may not turn on the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). Provisional DTCs do not necessarily indicate a failure of a component or system. If a component or system fails for 2 drive cycles, a hard fault will be stored.
