Key Id Registration (Using MUT-III Scan Tool)
NOTE:
Check for presents of any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Repair as necessary before proceeding with registration.
NOTE:
Using key ID register function will erase all key IDs that have been previously registered in Immobilizer ECU. All keys (8 maximum) need to be registered and should be available during procedure. DO NOT disconnect scan tool half way through registration process. After registering key IDs, ensure all registered keys will start engine. If engine will not start, see appropriate IMMOBILIZER SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Obtain 4-digit key identification number from vehicle owner. Key identification number is one located on a tag that was attached to ignition keys during time of purchase. This is NOT code that is on immobilizer override code card.
- Ensure ignition is off. Connect MUT-III scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. From start-up screen select INTERACTIVE DIAGNOSIS. Select SYSTEM SELECT. Select IMMOBILIZER from power train tab. Select SPECIAL FUNCTION from immobilizer screen. Select KEY REGISTRATION from special function screen. Enter 4-digit password obtained from vehicle owner. Click on check mark icon.
- If key ID was registered successfully, PROGRESS indication will turn Gray. If key ID failed to be registered, IN-COMPLETE indication will turn Gray.
- Number of keys currently registered will be displayed on scan tool screen. To register an additional key, replace ignition key with next key to be registered within 5 seconds. Continue registering keys up to a maximum of 8 keys.
- To complete registration, turn ignition switch to LOCK position for about 10 seconds. Check that engine can be started with each ignition key. Check for presents of any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect MUT-III scan tool.
