Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Check the fuel gauge. If the fuel gauge is functioning, proceed to step  3 , otherwise, go to the next step.
    2. NOTE: Check harness after checking intermediate connectors C-90 and C-28. If intermediate connectors are damaged, repair or replace them.
  2. Check for short circuit to ground between fuel gauge unit connector D-17 terminal No. 2 and ECM connector C-60 terminal No. 74 (M/T) or PCM connector C-54 terminal No. 60 (A/T). Make any necessary repairs to the harness wire and proceed to step  6 .
  3. Check connector C-60 at ECM (M/T) or connector C-54 at PCM (A/T) for damage. If the connector is in good condition, go to the next step. If the connector is damaged, repair or replace it and proceed to step  6 .
    4. NOTE: Check harness after checking intermediate connectors C-90 and C-28. If intermediate connectors are damaged, repair or replace them and proceed to step  6 .
  4. Check for open circuit or harness damage between fuel gauge unit connector D-17 terminal No. 2 and ECM connector C-60 terminal No. 74 (M/T) or PCM connector C-54 terminal No. 60 (A/T). If the harness wire is in good condition, go to the next step. If the harness wire is damaged, repair it and proceed to step  6 .
  5. Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern, refer to OTHER MONITOR  . Check the diagnostic trouble codes. If DTC P0461 is output, replace the ECM or PCM and go to the next step. If the DTC is absent, the malfunction is probably intermittent, see INTERMITTENT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  .
  6. Carry out a test drive with the drive cycle pattern, refer to OTHER MONITOR  . Check the diagnostic trouble codes. If DTC P0461 is output, retry the troubleshooting. If the DTC is absent, the inspection is complete.
