Diagnostic Procedure 1, Check "B" Terminal Circuit

- Remove the fuel pump fuse. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
- Crank or start the engine (if possible) until the fuel pressure is released.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Check that the starter motor terminal connector E108 connection is clean and tight.
- Check voltage between starter motor connector E108 terminal "B" and ground using a digital circuit tester. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . See Fig 1. Battery voltage should exist. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as not specified, check harness between the battery and the starter motor for open circuit.
- Check voltage between starter motor connector E108 terminal "B" and battery positive terminal using a digital circuit tester. With ignition switch in "START" position, voltage should be less than 0.5 volt. See Fig 1. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as not specified, check harness between the battery and the starter motor for continuity.
- Check voltage between starter motor case and battery negative terminal using a digital circuit tester. With ignition switch in "START" position, voltage should be less than 0.2 volt. See Fig 1. If voltage is as specified, starter motor "B" terminal circuit is OK. Further inspection is necessary. Refer to WORK FLOW . If voltage is as not specified, check the starter motor case and ground for poor continuity.
