- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If any DTCs related to MAF sensor or EVAP canister purge valve were stored, go to next step. If no DTCs were stored, go to step 4.
- Check for open or short circuit in Black/Yellow wire between C-8 ENGINE fuse in dash fuse box and MAF sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Check C-8 ENGINE fuse (15-amp). If problem is found, repair wiring or replace fuse as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem was found, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Using scan tool, perform variable intake manifold test. See MISCELLANEOUS TESTS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, command VIM solenoid ON and OFF. VIM solenoid should click when commanded ON and OFF. If VIM solenoid operates as specified, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If VIM solenoid does not operate as specified, go to next step.
- Replace VIM solenoid. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check for open or short circuit in Black/Yellow wire between C-8 ENGINE fuse in dash fuse box and VIM solenoid. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem was found, go to next step.
- Check for open or short circuit in White/Blue wire between PCM and VIM solenoid. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem was found, go to next step.
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. Use scan tool to clear DTC and verify repair.
