Circuit Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Trooper. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Variable Intake Manifold (VIM) solenoid controls intake air vacuum switching valve opening and closing induction control valve for intake manifold runners. VIM solenoid is controlled by PCM. When engine speed is less than 3600 RPM, VIM solenoid is On and induction control valve is closed. When engine speed is 3600 RPM or more, VIM solenoid is Off and induction control valve is opened. IF PCM detects short circuit in VIM solenoid, DTC P0662 is set.

When DTC sets, PCM will not illuminate MIL. PCM will store conditions present when DTC was set as freeze frame data in the FAILURE RECORDS data.

PCM will turn MIL off on third consecutive trip cycle during which diagnostic runs and fault is no longer recognized. A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive trip cycles during which diagnostic runs and fault is no longer recognized. DTC can be cleared with scan tool, or by disconnecting battery voltage feed to PCM.
