Key Id Registration (Using MUT-II Scan Tool)
NOTE:
Using key ID register function will erase all key IDs that have been previously registered in immobilizer-ECU. All keys (8 maximum) need to be registered and should be available during procedure. DO NOT disconnect scan tool half way through registration process. After registering key IDs, ensure all registered keys will start engine. If engine will not start, see appropriate IMMOBILIZER SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Obtain 4-digit key identification number from vehicle owner. The key identification number is the one located on a tag that was attached to the ignition keys during time of purchase. This is NOT the code that is on the immobilizer override code card.
- Ensure ignition if off. Connect MUT-II scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Fig 1-Fig 7 . Turn ignition switch to ON position. From special function menu, select KEY ID REGISTR. Using left, right, up and down keys, enter 4-digit password obtained from vehicle owner. After entering password, press "Y".
- If wrong password is input 5 times in a row, scan tool screen will display CAN'T EXECUTE FOR 20 MIN. DUE TO WRONG PASSWORD. Immobilizer-ECU will switch to unauthorized operation, start-prevention mode.
- If immobilizer system accepts password, insert key to be registered in ignition switch. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Press "Y" to start key ID registration. When key registration is successful, scan tool screen will display COMPLETED. If error occurs during key ID registration, scan tool screen will display CAN'T EXECUTE. See appropriate IMMOBILIZER SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If key has already been registered, scan tool screen will display KEY ID HAS BEEN REGISTERED.
- The number of keys currently registered will be displayed on scan tool screen. To register an additional key, replace ignition key with next key to be registered within 5 seconds and press "Y". Continue registering keys up to a maximum of 8 keys. After last key is registered, press "N".
- To complete registration, turn ignition switch to LOCK position for approximately 10 seconds. Check that engine can be started with each of the ignition keys. Check for the presents any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Ensure ignition if off. Disconnect MUT-II scan tool.
