Key Id Registration (Using MUT-III Scan Tool)
NOTE:
Check for the presents any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Repair as necessary before proceeding with the registration.
NOTE:
Using key ID register function will erase all key IDs that have been previously registered in immobilizer-ECU. All keys (8 maximum) need to be registered and should be available during procedure. DO NOT disconnect scan tool half way through registration process. After registering key IDs, ensure all registered keys will start engine. If engine will not start, see appropriate IMMOBILIZER SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Obtain 4-digit key identification number from vehicle owner. The key identification number is the one located on a tag that was attached to the ignition keys during time of purchase. This is NOT the code that is on the immobilizer override code card.
- Ensure ignition if off. Connect MUT-III scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure-Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. From start-up screen select INTERACTIVE DIAGNOSIS. Select SYSTEM SELECT. Select IMMOBILIZER from power train tab. Select SPECIAL FUNCTION from immobilizer screen. Select KEY REGISTRATION from special function screen. Enter 4-digit password obtained from vehicle owner. Click check mark icon.
- If key ID was registered successfully, PROGRESS indication will turn gray. If key ID failed to be registered, IN-COMPLETE indication will turn gray.
- The number of keys currently registered will be displayed on scan tool screen. To register an additional key, replace ignition key with next key to be registered within 5 seconds. Continue registering keys up to a maximum of 8 keys.
- To complete registration, turn ignition switch to LOCK position for approximately 10 seconds. Check that engine can be started with each of the ignition keys. Check for the presents any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Ensure ignition if off. Disconnect MUT-III scan tool.
