PCM REPROGRAMMING FOR DTC P0507

PCM REPROGRAMMING FOR DTC P0507

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): TSB-03-13-009, Date of Issue:  December 2003
MITSUBISHI: 2002-03 Lancer
GROUP: 13 Fuel
Superceded Bulletin(s): TSB-02-13-006, Date of Issue:  March, 2002
NOTE: This TSB supercedes TSB-02-13-006, issued March, 2002, which should be discarded. This TSB includes all 2002 and 2003 Lancer models, a new PCM update software, and MUT-III reprogramming instructions.

PURPOSE

Incorrect PCM software parameters may cause Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0507 to set in the PCM and turn on the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light. Reprogramming the PCM as described in this bulletin will eliminate this condition.

If the vehicle was already reprogrammed with the previous database (as described in TSB-02-13-006 PCM REPROGRAMMING FOR DTC P0507), DTC P0507 could incorrectly re-set under certain driving conditions. The vehicle must be reprogrammed again using the new reprogramming database in this TSB.

For details on reprogramming with the MUT-III scan tool, refer to TSB-03-00-015 REPROGRAMMING WITH THE MUT-III.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

2002 and 2003 Lancer models (EXCEPT Evolution)

PROCEDURE

CAUTION: BATTERY VOLTAGE (AS MEASURED AT THE BATTERY POSTS WITHOUT ELECTRICAL LOAD) MUST BE 12.4V OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO REPROGRAM THE PCM.
  1. Using the MUT-III scan tool, check to see if any DTCs are set in the PCM.

If any DTC is set, follow the appropriate DTC troubleshooting and repair instructions in the service manual.

  2. Use the MUT-III to erase all DTCs set in the PCM.
  3. Turn the ignition key to OFF and disconnect the MUT-III.
  4. Gather the following reprogramming equipment:
    REPROGRAMMING EQUIPMENT

    Description Number
    MUT-III Database DVD-ROM MUT-III / STV 8.2 (contains Reprogramming Database Version N03101)
Memory card 128 MByte Compact Flash MB991853
    Memory Card adapter PCMCIA MB991939
"Engine Compartment" and "Control Module" Labels Part No. MSSF-024G-00
  5. Transfer the reprogramming data from the DVD-ROM to the memory card. Fig 1

  6. Remove the memory card from the laptop and install it in the VCI.
  7. Reprogram the PCM, using automatic reprogramming. For reprogramming details, refer to TSB-03-00-015 REPROGRAMMING WITH THE MUT-III.
CAUTION: DO NOT DISTURB THE HARNESS CABLES OR CONNECTIONS. INTERRUPTION DURING THE PROGRAMMING PROCESS COULD CAUSE THE PCM TO LOSE DATA OR PREVENT FUTURE PCM REPROGRAMMING.
  8. Using a ball-point pen, enter the appropriate PCM part number, vendor number, ROM ID#, this TSB number (TSB-03-13-009), your dealer code, and the current date on the Engine Compartment and Control Module Labels (part no. MSSF-024G-00). Fig 2
NOTE: Attachment A lists this information for affected vehicles. Fig 3
