PURPOSE

The MUT-III Scan Tool Viewer (STV) version 13.0 was sent to all Mitsubishi dealers on February 1. Loading this new software provides technicians with many new STV features. This bulletin describes the following new STV features and how to use them.

STV FEATURE

STV FEATURE REFER TO

FREEZE FRAME DATA VCI STANDALONE DIAGNOSIS

READING AND ERASING ALL DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

This feature does not work on the following vehicle systems:

  • 1997-2004 Diamante SWS
  • 1983-89 Montero cruise control system
  • 2005 Galant and 2004-06 Endeavor air conditioning systems

With this feature, you can check and clear ALL DTCs stored in every ECU in just a few steps. Also, you can customize the ECU selection for checking DTCs.

It is recommended to use the All DTC Check function at the beginning of diagnosis, and again after repairs are completed before releasing the vehicle to the customer. However, remember that if you erase all DTCs. all freeze frame data is lost.

VCI STANDALONE DIAGNOSIS

This feature does not work on the following vehicle systems:

  • All SWS except 1997-2004 Diamante SWS
  • 1983-89 Montero cruise control system

This feature allows you to read DTCs using the VCI alone, without carrying around the MUT-III laptop or USB cable. Data transfer to memory card only needs to be done when a MUT-III software update is received. After your memory card has the current information, you may begin reading DTCs using the VCI Standalone feature.

NOTE: VCI Standalone Diagnosis can read  DTCs, but cannot clear DTCs.  Clearing DTCs requires the MUT-III (using the usual procedure).

FREEZE FRAME DATA (2006-ON ECLIPSE & GALANT, 2007-ON ECLIPSE SPYDER)

In the previously released MUT-III STV software, it was necessary to go to the "Main Menu" and select "Special Function" then "Freeze Frame Data (OBD)". In STV version 13.0, the freeze frame selection process has been modified to be the same as for other models.

Erase and Read All DTCs  - Erases DTCs from all ECUs, then checks for any DTCs that remain in the ECU memory ("hard" DTCs).

NOTE: DTCs that failed to be erased are displayed on the list. DTCs that require additional time to detect after being erased will not be displayed.
  4. Select either "Up to 2005MY" or "From 2006MY" for the vehicle you are diagnosing.
Fig 4: UP To 2005My OR From 2006My
    G04155940

    For "Up to 2005MY":

    1. The default is all systems. You may want to exclude a particular system because the vehicle is not equipped with that system, or because your diagnosis is ECU-specific. To exclude (deselect) a system, click the box next to the appropriate ECU. If there is no "X" in the box, the scan tool will not check for DTCs in that ECU.

(Screen shown is for automatic A/C.)

    4. The check mark at the bottom of the screen will not become active until you answer a few details about the vehicle's ECUs. If an ECU has "(Select option!") beside it, you must select this ECU by clicking on it. Then it displays the Loading Option Setup table on the right side of the screen. Select the options on the vehicle being diagnosed.
    5. After the check mark at the bottom of the screen is active (select options have been made), click on it to begin checking for DTCs.
  5. When a confirmation box displays ("Are you sure?"), click on the check mark to continue.
  6. DTCs being checked will be indicated by the "Checking" text flashing.
  7. A confirmation box ("All checks are completed") indicates that the DTC checking is completed. Click on the check mark.
